Odd Jobs
A downloadable game for Windows
Odd Jobs is an unfinished project. This is a single-house demo of a game we didn't get to finish, but we're proud of what's here and wanted to share it. It's enough to get a real feel for the work, the house, and where we wanted to take it.
About Odd Jobs
You're a self-employed handyperson. You fix light bulbs, clean counters, and vacuum floors. The work is real, the pay is real, and the clients are normal people with ordinary problems.
But you're never the only one in the house. Something else is already there, and it's not happy about the company. It doesn't want to hurt you. It just doesn't want you there.
Get in, do the work, move on, come back to a new mess. Get paid. That's the job.
No Jump Scares
No jump scares, no death, no fighting. The unease comes from the house itself:
A door that was closed is now open. A sink you turned off is running. And there's definitely something in the basement...
Nothing will jump out at you. You just have to keep working.
Different Every Time
Same house, different job. Pick from three listings, each with more tasks than the last. The tasks are randomized. The events are randomized. Don't expect the house to repeat itself.
What's in the demo
- Satisfying, tactile work. Scrub grime off surfaces, take a light apart to swap the bulb, water the plants, haul out the trash.
- Something else is in the house. Paranormal activity builds the longer you stay: lights flicker, doors open, objects get knocked loose, and the house gets harder to work in.
- Cleared rooms don't stay cleared. Paranormal events leave new messes behind, so a room you finished can need work again.
- Burn incense. Light some in a room you've finished to slow the house down.
- No HUD. Everything runs through the phone in your hand: your task list, your jobs, and your shop.
- Spend what you earn. Order supplies from your phone and they'll show up in the front hallway, even mid-job.
- Build a reputation. Every job ends with a review score. Do well and you'll unlock bigger jobs with more tasks to get through.
- You decide when to leave. Nothing can kill you or force you out. Finish the job when you're ready.
AI Usage
The vast majority of Odd Jobs was made by a small team of game devs over a few years of our spare time. Life always takes priority over a project like this, and over the last year progress slowed enough, with plenty still left to do, that we decided to wrap things up.
To get the demo into a playable, shareable state, we used AI coding tools during the final couple of months of production. They were used to finish the remaining game loop and the UI flow, fix bugs, optimize performance, and rework or add several features we really wanted to get in. Everything else was made by the team.
